Marô, the name given to the Breton marshlands of the Vendée region, stretches across the Vendée and Loire-Atlantique departments of the Pays de la Loire region. It forms the border between Poitou and Brittany, but is 90% Vendée. The 4,500-hectare marshland and hydrographic landscape is adjacent to theAtlantic Ocean and theVendée estuary.
The shallow marshes are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, making them an important ecosystem. The region is working hard to preserve this natural ecosystem while developing ecotourism activities. In 2020, it will be awarded the Palme du Tourisme Durable.
Where is the Breton marshland in the Vendée?
Located all along the Vendée coastline, there are many ways to access the marsh. Inland, enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Marô from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, La Barre-de-Monts, Bretignolles-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-de-Monts or from Notre-Dame-de-Monts or from our campsite in the Vendée.
